NSW AID DRIVE ON FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS

Sydney - A thousand miles away in safer confines, Pinoys in Sydney are mobilising resources and funds to send relief to communities hit hard by Typhoon Ondoy.Individuals and associations are speeding up efforts to send the much-needed aid back home as they issued calls to fellow kabayans in New South Wales to join the relief drive."This is a time to help, magtulungan na po tayo. Hindi po kaya ng ating pamahalaan gawin ito mag-isa," said Emma de Vera of Granville. "Our kababayans are in dire need of food - coffee, noodles, tea, sugar, clothing, slippers, shoes, nappies, kitchen utensils, cookware, blankets, towels," she said.Metro Manila was hit by the biggest floods in forty years. At least 80 per cent of the metropolis was flooded over the weekend. Emma and their group are coordinating relief measures directly with the Office of the City Mayor in Marikina, the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Rotary International (Marikina) chapter and PAL which they said had pledged to give a free air freight service for the relief goods. "Kami po ay humihingi ng tulong para sa ating mga kababayan na nawalan ng mga mahal sa buhay at mga bahay at mga gamit dahil sa dulong ni Mang ONDOY.Sige na po - yong mga pantry ninyo na umaapaw, linisin nyo na para naman mapakinabangan ng iba. Ang dami dami po talagang nangangailangan. "PAL is offering free airfreight, as aired on TFC this morning."
