Banag Banag, The Bisaya Speaking Association in NSW, is conducting a SELF ESTEEM/SELF CONFIDENCE Workshop. Banag Banag is a family based community association in Blacktown. The group provides charity aid to the Philippines and Australia. The most recent overseas aid sent was for disaster relief for flood victims in the Philippines and also for the bushfire victims in Victoria. Currently, the groups’ project is to provide deep-well pumps for impoverished areas of the Philippines. Many still do not have access to safe and healthy potable water.With the news on TV broadcasting the recent increase in bullying, predominantly in schools, Banag Banag is offering a 2-hr workshop for school children aged 10-12 years old. We have places for 30 children. Parents are encouraged to observe.The workshop will be on self esteem/self confidence, through defensive martial arts. The participants will be guided on how to be “street-wise” and to avoid being a victim.Learn how to use the tools that you are born with, your eyes, and hands; how to talk and look! Learn how to defend yourself mentally and not physically!This is a 2-hour workshop of which the major points to be imparted will be:• How to avoid getting into a situation as a main goal• Learn how to breathe• Learn basic form of concentration/meditation• how to hold your hands • how to use your body language to avoid being a victimThe workshop will be conducted by Sensei Phil Chapman of Goju Ryu Karate Do. Sensei Phil has 28 years experience in full contact karate. He is also the owner and creator of one of the oldest Martial Arts Store in Australia, internationally known, Sensei’s Martial Arts Store at our very own Barker Street, Rooty Hill.The venue will be at Blacktown Council’s Rooty Hill School of Arts Hall, corner of Rooty Hill Road and Barker Street. The workshop will run between 10am till 12 noon on October 3, Saturday, first week of the school holidays. Snacks and drinks will be provided for the children. Fun activities will be included also for mum and dad so please use comfortable clothing. Shoes must be worn and jewellery to be left at home.
