Top newsVoters registration until Aug. 31 Visit the Consulate nowAUGUST is the last month for Filipinos wanting to vote in the 2010 national elections to sign up in the overseas absentee voters (OAV) roster. Individuals qualifying to sign up as an absentee voter are those who are Filipino citizens in Australia or Filipino-Australians who have dual citizenship. The listing of absentee voters will close on August 31st. An absentee voter must be at least 18 years old. A campaign to have Australians, formerly Filipino citizens, to reacquire their citizenship is ongoing. A statement from the Philippine Consulate reported that as much as 2,500 Filipino-Australians had reacquired their Filipino citizenship in the past months. “The registration of OAVs ends on 31 August 2010, and we are trying to reach out to as many Filipinos as possible who want to exercise their right to choose their next leader,” Consul General Eva Betita said. “For this reason, the Consulate conducts Filipino OAV registration wherever we confer dual citizenship,” Betita said.
